Yamandu Costa
(BRAZIL)
*Latin Grammy Award-winning artist
On his seven-string guitar, Yamandu seems to have 400 fingers… Having shared the stage with Richard Galliano, Kenny Garrett, Bobby McFerrin and even the Orchestre national de France, he is an extraordinary guitarist, a genius improviser and a composer who defies categorisation into any particular musical genre. Whilst he mainly plays choro (classic samba from the 1920s) and Brazilian classical music, one can sense in his playing the influence of milongas, tangos, zambas and even chamamés… All his interpretations seem to reinvent music and, thanks to his intimate connection with his guitar, a kind of magic penetrates the soul.
