Ballet des fous

(Jazz / BRAZIL)

BALLET DES FOUS is a project born out of the meeting in Paris – a melting pot of world music and cultures – between Brazilian guitarists Caio Marcio and Filipe Dourado and the accomplished drummer Miguel Couto.

Together, this close-knit trio has developed a refined musical language that blends classical and jazz with the rich rhythmic and melodic sounds of Brazil’s musical heritage.

Ballet des Fous is set to release an album in 2026 paying tribute to Garoto, a major composer and guitarist and a pioneer of bossa nova, whose harmonic innovation and melodic sensibility profoundly altered the course of Brazilian music. Alongside Ballet des Fous’s sensitive reinterpretations of Garoto’s work, a number of the trio’s original compositions carry on this legacy with a contemporary sound, in an intimate, luminous and vibrant spirit.

Lovers of beautiful Brazilian music, listen up: this is an absolute must-hear!

Actualité

Nouvel album à venir à l’automne 2026 !

The Ballet des Fous trio — Filipe Dourado (cavaquinho), Miguel Couto (drums) and Caio Marcio Santos (guitar) — present a new album offering a vibrant reinterpretation of Garoto.

Influenced by this artist, they have dedicated an album to him that carries on his spirit with original versions of ‘Desvairada’, ‘Lamentos do Morro’ and ‘Meu cavaquinho’, as well as two compositions: ‘Hommage à Garoto’ (Caio Marcio Santos) and ‘Garoteado’ (Filipe Dourado).

Their music reflects a shared desire to innovate without losing sight of tradition, driven by great virtuosity and a strong command of their instruments.

About Garoto

Garoto (Aníbal Augusto Sardinha): the hidden link in the chain of Brazilian musical modernity

If one seeks to understand how Brazilian music came to be this unique blend of harmonic sophistication, rhythmic freedom and popular lyricism, one name stands out: Garoto, a native of São Paulo.

A virtuoso and multi-instrumentalist, he profoundly transformed the language of Brazilian music whilst remaining rooted in choro. He modernised without breaking with tradition, paving the way for a new musical sensibility.

His pieces, such as Lamentos do Morro and Jorge do Fusa, reveal a striking modernity.
